The Everyday Ally: A Tedx Talk by Nina G, America's only Stuttering Female Stand-Up Comedian

“There’s this weird thing when you have a disability. Suddenly everybody has a PHD in the thing you have.”
— Nina G.

I talk a lot about what it's like to be a person who stutters. And I have received overwhelming support from friends, family and strangers who have read my blog and genuinely want to know how they can be an ally to me, other stutterers and disabled people everywhere.

I have some wisdom. But, at the end of the day, I don't know what it's like to be an able-bodied person. I've stuttered for as long as I can remember, so I genuinely do not know what it's like to speak fluently. So, the only advice I could give these supporters comes from my personal experiences and feelings. And, unfortunately, I have sometimes been unable to articulate to these people what it truly means to be an ally.

But along came Nina G.! Nina bills herself as the country's only stuttering female comedian (which I find soooo awesome. I've always said that I'd be a comedian if I didn't stutter). In this about 15-minute TEDx Talk, Nina uses comedy to say everything I've been trying to for about a decade!
